Winnipeg Jets
The original Winnipeg Jets began life in 1972-73 as part of the WHA (World Hockey Association). The Jets (and three other WHA teams) joined the NHL in 1979-80. They remained in Winnipeg until moving to Phoenix in 1996-97 (Phoenix Coyotes, then Arizona Coyotes). The new Winnipeg Jets franchise was established in 1999 when a new franchise joined the NHL as the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers moved to Winnipeg in 2011-12 and once again became know as the Winnipeg Jets. To add to the confusion, as far as team records are concerned, the prior Jets club history is retained by the Arizona club. But this poster focuses solely on teams known as the Winnipeg Jets.
