This beautifully framed piece features an original piece of watercolor artwork glass-framed in an attractive two inch wide black resin frame with a double mat. The outer dimensions of the framed piece are approximately 17” wide x 24.5” high, although the exact size will vary according to the size of the original piece of art.

At the core of the framed piece is the actual piece of original artwork as painted by the artist on textured 100% rag, water-marked watercolor paper. In many cases the original artwork has handwritten notes in pencil from the artist (be sure to “See the actual artwork without the frame” elsewhere in this website). Simply put, this is beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork.

The outer mat is a rich textured black acid-free mat with a decorative inset white v-groove, while the inner mat is a complimentary colored acid-free mat reflecting one of the team’s primary colors. The website image of this framed piece shows the mat color that we suggest (Medium Blue), but since each piece is custom framed, we are happy to use whatever color mat you wish (depending on availability) – our standard mat colors are:

Light Blue / Dark Blue / Brown / Maroon (close to brown) / White / Silver / Gold / Yellow (bright yellow) / Green (dark green) / Orange / Purple / Red (bright red, somewhat close to PMS 186)

Beneath the artwork is a silver plate with black text describing the original artwork. The text for this piece will read:

This original, one-of-a-kind watercolor painting of the 1992-93 Quebec Nordiques (now Colorado Avalanche) jersey is the original artwork that was used in the creation of this Colorado Avalanche uniform evolution print and tens of thousands of other Colorado Avalanche products that have been sold across North America. This original piece of art was painted by artist Tino Paolini for Maple Leaf Productions Ltd.

Beneath the silver plate is a 3” x 9” reproduction of a well known, best-selling print that celebrates the history of the team. The print beautifully illustrates the chronological evolution of the team’s uniform and shows you how the original art was used in the creation of this print. If you look closely, you will see that the print features the actual artwork being offered for sale. The 3” x 9” print looks like this:

History

1992-93The years following the 1986-87 season would not be kind to the Nordiques. From 1987-88 to 1991-92 they would be the sole proprietors of last place in the Adams Division, their worst year coming in 1989-90 when the managed to win 12 games and collect 31 points after 80 games. The bright side was that their last place finishes translated into a series of first round draft picks that infused the club with really good young talent. When the 1992-93 season rolled around the team featured four outstanding first round picks in their lineup: Joe Sakic, team captain, was drafted 15th overall in the 1987 entry draft, Mats Sundin who was the first overall pick in the 1989 draft, Owen Nolan another first overall pick, was drafted in 1990 and Mike Ricci, who was drafted 4th overall in 1990 by Philadelphia, but was acquired for Eric Lindros, who refused to sign with the Nords after being selected first overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. The deal for Eric Lindros, which was ultimately decided by an arbitrator because Quebec management managed to trade Lindros to both the Flyers and the NY Rangers, yielded and number of solid players that had an immediate impact on the team. Along with Ricci Quebec acquired, defencemen Steve Duchesne and Kerry Huffman, rugged forward Chris Simon and goalie Ron Hextall. The Nordiques also received a first-round pick in 1994, $15 million in cash and the rights to Swedish Junior star Peter Forsberg. The Nordiques now featured a lineup that was the envy of a lot of teams in the NHL. Led by Sundin and Sakic who both surpassed the 100-point plateau, the Nordiques went on to have their best season in five years finishing second in the Adams Division with 104 points and aberth in the playoffs. The Bruins finished ahead of them with 109 and the Habs behind them with 103.The 1992-93 Nordiques team had speed, skill, character and energy but it did not have very much playoff experience. In the first round of the post season they faced the Montreal Canadiens and the third installment of the Battle of Quebec was underway.  The series was, once again, a hard-fought, close series that saw three games decided in overtime. In the end, it was the stellar play of all star goalie Patrick Roy and the veteran savvy of the likes of: Denis Savard, Mike Keane, Kirk Muller and Vincent Damphouse that led the Habs to victory in six games. Sadly, due to future playoff seeding and economic circumstances this would be the final installment of the Battle of Quebec.Once again the tried and true look of the Nordiques, the sky blue jersey trimmed with white fleurs-de-lis and the familiar red and white Nordiques logo, prevailed as road uniform for the for the team. This year's rendition featured a couple of modifications. The sleeve numbers are made more prominent by the addition of red trim outlining them.  And on the front of the right shoulder is a patch celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup.
