The Washington Commanders franchise was established in 1932 when it was known as the Boston Braves. It then became the Boston Redskins, and then for the next 80+ years it was known as the Washington Redskins, then for two years as the Washington Football Team. The name Washington Commanders was officially announced February 2, 2022.
