The Arizona Coyotes franchise was established as a WHA franchise in 1972 when it was known as the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996-97 and the team was known as the Phoenix Coyotes. In 2014 the franchise changed its name to the Arizona Coyotes.
